Televisions are fragile and often treasured parts of our home. As as result, you’ll want to pack and move your television with great care to prevent permanent damage. To pack and move your television like the experts, follow these five simple steps:
- Remove, label and pack all wires.
- Pack up television extras.
- Clean and protect television.
- Put into a protective box.
- Hire a removals team if in doubt.
1. Remove, Label and Pack Wires
To begin, remove all wires from your television. This should include at least the power and satellite cables, but you could have much more than this.
Make sure you label the wires if you will be unsure what they are when you unpack. You can do this however works best for you but we recommend sticky labels, masking tape and marker, or labelled Ziploc bags. If it helps, you can take a photograph of the back of the television before this so you know what it looks like when its all set up.
When this is done, you can pack the wires in a labelled box. Wires tend to be robust so, as long as you put them in a clean and dry box, these don’t require much more attention. To stop them from getting mixed up and knotted though, you should use nylon ties and/or Velcro tabs to separate and organise the wires.
2. Pack up TV Extras
This is also a great time to pack up your Sky Box, DVD Player, PlayStation, remote(s), controller(s) and other television extras into a box.
As with all delicate items, you’ll want to make sure the boxes are cushioned with bubble wrap or soft items (like blankets) so they can’t move around and break.
There is nothing worse than unpacking your television in your new home to a missing wire or controller. Keep everyone happy by preparing ahead… and don’t forget the remote!
3. Clean and Protect Television
If you happen to have the original box for your television with all of the protective polystyrene in, you can skip this step and go ahead and put the television straight back in. The original box for your television is designed to keep it as safe and secure as possible.
- Clean the TV and its case using a special screen cleaner and a microfibre cloth. Compressed air is great to remove dust from the vents.
- Remove the TV from its mount (if it has one) and stand.
- Wrap the television in a protective material like bubble wrap or corrugated plastic cardboard. If you need to secure the wrap, a small amount of painters tape can hold it in place.
- As you would with a canvas, you can use cardboard corner protectors on top of the wrap for additional protection. You can find these in art shops, order these online or make them yourself with a small amount of cardboard – as StateoftheART Gallery shows us in this video:
Just completing these step drastically reduces the chances of your television getting damaged or broken.
4. Put Into Protective Box or Bag
This step is not essential but, for extra protection, you can get a custom box or special quilted cover (or bag) for your television.
5. If In Doubt, Hire a Removals Team
